Hunters edge and animal companions

Rules Discussion

One thing I'm not sure about is if animal companions can benefit from hunters edge if the animal companion was gained through a non ranger archetype, such as cavalier. Has anyone had any experience with such a build in pfs or anything?

Written rules, it does not. The companion being able to benefit from your edge is part if the ranger animal companion feat, not part of hunter's edge.

PFS has no special rules about this, and people running PFS make as many mistakes as anyone else (and usually assume people know their own characters instead if auditing everything for every game), so it wouldn't be the strange to see this being run incorrectly in a given session.

I don't think it is as clear cut to that.

As long as you also take the Rangers level 1 feat Animal companion you can get an animal companion via a different archetype feat and it still works. The Rangers abilities work off the flag animal companion which does apply to companions gained via other feats. Enlarge Companion and Side by Side clearly apply to any animal companions. Beatmaster feats clearly apply to all animal companions.

Doing this gives you multiple animal companions.

The way I read it it is possible to mix and match.
