opinion on the priest of the fallen spiritualist

This forum and reddit have a lot of interesting resources but most of them are quite old. The spiritualist received a new archetype, the Priest of the fallen in 2019 but unfortunately the guides I found are not recent enough.

The only info I have are from this and a few people speculating here and there.

It looks ok on paper when you combine it with fractured mind but I still don't know enough about the game to assess how viable things are. My DM told me that the class is quite weak and I'm about to start an AP that is fairly challenging.

Has anyone ever tried this archetype? If yes, how was it?

The spiritualist class as a whole is not one of the stronger classes but it's not unworkable. Its main weaknesses are a pet which can't be armored and doesn't get huge offensive potential, and a spell list which tends to save based spells (not ideal on a 6-level spellcaster with no extra spell slots or save DC boost.)

The archetype - well, adding a mythmaker ability boosts the offensive potential of the phantom, and from 6th level the ability to summon a new phantom makes being unable to armor it less important. It doesn't change the spell list but careful spell selection should make that less important.

Which AP?

The Priest of the Fallen buffs your Phantom in power, flexibility, and reliability. They're still between familiars and animal companions in offensive capabilities, but it's way ahead of where you started.

As a Fractured Mind multiarchetype I propose investing in Charisma feats and (if your campaign begins/ends at high level) going into the Evangelist PRC for polymorph shenanigans. By worshiping The Lantern King (CN) you'd get access to Polymorph Any Object at character level 11, with which all Breath/Poison DCs are calculated with your Charisma as it's a spell-like ability.

Cha feats:
Noble Scion of War* (Cha to Intiative)
Steadfast Personality* (Cha vs Mind-affecting)
Draconic Heritage: Esoteric (Daze effect that scales with charisma and psychic classes. Gives you something to do.)
Eldritch Heritage (A familiar is never bad)

*Buy a Circlet of Persuasion when possible to get a +3 bonus to Initiative and will saves vs Mind-Affecting.
