Hey all, my GM just dropped a ROBE OF ARCANE HERITAGE on the party, and has ruled that it does work with a Bloodrager (which is sometimes contentious). The problem is, I'm a PRIMALIST Bloodrager.
The Question: Does this robe have any effect on the Rage powers chosen, and if so how much does it affect them?
This means the only power that benefits from the robe is my first level Staggering Strike (DC inceeases by 2). Between enemies immune to the effect (we're playing Iron Gods, so Constructs, Oozes and Undead) and my ludicrous damage (I usually 1-shot non-boss enemies on a crit) we're almost to the end of book 4 without ever seeing this ability used.
I have milticlassed (1 level each of Dual-Cursed Oracle and Brawler), so the robes will eventually get me the capstone abity for my Bloodline, but that's aaages away, so not really helpful.

Hello there, time traveler! I notice you've jumped forward from sometime before 2016 when the FAQ was released, presumably to gain insight from the highly advanced society of 2021.
Bloodrager Bloodlines: Can a bloodrager use abilities that require sorcerer levels and relate to sorcerer bloodlines like robe of arcane heritage?
No. Some hybrid classes, like the brawler, have a class feature allowing them to use items related to their parent class, but the bloodrager doesn’t.

As your GM has changed how the Robe of Arcane Heritage interacts with the Bloodrager, I propose that you bring up any weird ramifications of that decision with them directly.
Also, replace Staggering Strike with a Bloodline Familiar if you don't get any use out of it.

Ah fair enough. I didn't really research this last night, I just remember seeing arguments in the past about it.
Regardless, my GM said it would work (which is a house-rule I guess), but when I brought up that I'm a Primalist he wasn't sure. I couldn't find any threads discussing it (I guess because it doesn't work with Bloodragers anyway), so I thoughg I'd see what people think.
Okay, you take an archetype that trades away a feature, then get an item/ability that enhances the original feature. I think you are out of luck.
Yeah. Now that I'm in the light of day that's what I think too. *sad face*

Yeah I'll take a look at it. A familiar doesn't really fit the character, but if I can think of a way for it to fit it'll at least give me something. I don't think I'll get a Tumour Familiar though, I need my feats (maybe at level 17 or 19, but that's a while away).
Thanks guys. I guess I'm selling the robes, though I'll probably buy them back when I get to Bloodrager 16 (the capstone for the Aberrant bloodline is amazing).

They're too good to pass up on, imo. A Hedgehog with the Protector archetype is especially great as it shores up a bad saving throw and gives you a large boost to your effective HP, but a less RP-intrusive choice would be the Ioun Wyrd. Then you can simply pretend it's a magic trinket instead of a familiar. The combination of a fly speed, Construct Traits, and Blindsight makes it an excellent scout, as it is unaffected by invisibility and anything mind-affecting.

How is it that like 90% of FAQs Paizo puts out are just dunking on things that were nice for characters who hit things? {Sorry for the late reply, but it's less than two years and I'm in the process of preparing a character looking stuff up and a bit sick of Paizo's garbage FaQ-rata}

Because this item specifically refers to the Sorcerer class, not the Bloodrager class:Wonderstell wrote:How is it that like 90% of FAQs Paizo puts out are just dunking on things that were nice for characters who hit things? {Sorry for the late reply, but it's less than two years and I'm in the process of preparing a character looking stuff up and a bit sick of Paizo's garbage FaQ-rata}MrCharisma wrote:(which is sometimes contentious)Hello there, time traveler! Ultimate Equipment pg. 216, Advanced Player's Guide pg. 308 Aura moderate necromancy; CL 9thSource
Slot body; Price 16,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
These elegant, dark purple robes are usually decorated with gold stitching suggesting a particular sorcerer bloodline, though some might indicate a family tree. When a sorcerer dons a robe of arcane heritage, the stitching pulls itself apart and reweaves to match her particular sorcerer bloodline. The wearer treats her sorcerer level as 4 higher than normal for the purpose of determining what bloodline powers she can use and their effects.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, speak with dead, creator must be a sorcerer; Cost 8,000 gp
Beyond the retraining spells mechanic, no part of the Bloodrager class specifically 'works like' or 'counts as' a sorcerer, nor do they have a 'sorcerer bloodline' or even a 'sorcerer level'.
This FAQ was just pointing out what was already printed in the relevant volumes but wasn't noticed by most readers...

Whispers, "Hey, if you or your GM don't agree with an FAQ or even RAW rule, you can change it at your table."
I mean, Bloodrager bloodlines works in all parts like sorcerer bloodlines but with abilities more suited to a martial character, so it's extremely condescending to say the reality wasn't noticed or that there isn't a discrepancy. Even further, it's super pedantic to say that an item published 2.5 years before the hybrid classes having "sorcerer" in the name for an ability that literally no other class can gain access to at the time is meant to be iron clad future proofing.

Any condescension was unintended: I didn't notice the fine details either, but RAW the robes never worked for Bloodragers and the FAQ the prior poster complained about just clarified why (that hybrid classes don't automatically count as their parent classes).

It's funny that you complain about "garbage FaQ-rata" on an FAQ where they didn't use the FAQ to errata things.
Do you want them to change things via FAQ, or do you not? You're going both ways here...
