have a question about advanced weapons brand new to the 2e system

Rules Discussion

ok forgive me for Being a noob here but around the forums in discussion about firearms people keep saying that advanced weapons come with a -2 to hit why is that I've seen nothing about-to hit modifiers in the crb weapons rules?

Its because fighters and gunslingers have better proficiency in simple and martial weapons than advanced weapons. For example gunslingers start with expert proficiency (which adds 4+level to hit) with simple and martial firearms and crossbows but only trained proficiency (which adds 2+level to hit) with advanced firearms and crossbows.

thanks

It's more accurate to say that they aren't getting a +2 to hit that other weapons are getting, but that's also clunkier than saying -2.

It would be simple enough to say "a relative -2 to hit", but oh no it's a whole extra word to type.
