Can a Kobold Fencer gain panache with Grovel?

Rules Discussion

Swashbuckler's Style:

Fencer
You move carefully, feinting and creating false openings to lead your foes into inopportune attacks. You are trained in Deception. You gain panache during an encounter whenever you successfully Feint or Create a Diversion against a foe.

Kobold Ancestry Feat:

Grovel [Single Action] (Feat 5)
Auditory Concentrate Emotion Kobold Mental

Prerequisites: trained in Deception

With obsequious words and begging gestures, you convince your foe you're less of a threat. You attempt to Feint against a creature. Unlike a normal Feint, the creature can be within 30 feet instead of in your melee reach, and you make your check against its Will DC instead of its Perception DC.

If a Kobold Fencer Swashbuckler uses Grovel, does he get panache?
From a roleplay perspective this would make a lot of sense, since the kobold tricks his oponent into focussing on someone else. But I'm not sure if this is RAW or not?

It looks fine to me. It's a Feint against a foe.

Cool, thanks for the help!

You're welcome. I have to say that I love your concept. The idea of groveling as a means to gain panache really flips the usual swashbuckler tropes.

Pretty effective too, since it's far more common for an enemy's will save to be bad than their perception.

Yeah Kobold Fencers are a solid build. They're a +Dex/Cha Ancestry with a good Ancestry Feat option.

I think that being one of the better martial builds for a Kobold is solid thematically, too.

It sounds like a lot of fun to play. A true annoyance to any enemy.

Kobolds also have other Ancestry Feats that can be useful for Swashbucklers:

Scamper combines really well with the Vivacious Speed Class Feature (which gives Swashbucklers extra speed). At lvl 11 that's 55 feet of movement in panache, meaning that most humanoid enemies would have to use up all 3 actions to get back in melee range against you. And if they do, you just attack twice and use Scamper again. It doesn't get more annoying than that.

Between the Scales is a perfect fit for Swashbucklers when combined with Tumble Behind, Unbalancing Finisher or Grovel.

Dragon's Presence is nice for Braggarts to gain panache.

Since Swashbucklers tend to have high Charisma, Dracomancer and Elite Dracomancer are fantastic Ancestry Feats. Having 4 spells in your repertoire is just cool.
Choosing True Strike could be good to make sure that your finisher lands, and at later levels to get a decent chance of causing 18d6 damage with Lethal Finisher.
Choosing Fleet Step is good if you want to annoy the enemies even more.
And so many other fun options with these two Ancestry Feats...
