Armbands of athletiscm

I had a question, if you have armbands of Athleticism and a potency whip +1 and your making a trip attack, would both item bonus' stack? It seems like it would just use the Armbands bonus correct no?

You only benefit from the higher bonus of the same type.

This makes me wonder ... if you have the armbands and a stock whip, do you get the armbands' bonus to when you whippy trippy someone?

You're making an athletics check, so your item bonus from the armband would apply.
