Courageous Assault question

Rules Discussion

So in order for this ability to work first you would spend an action to Inspire Courage and then another action to activate Courageous Assault? Seems like it but just wanted to make sure.

It's a metamagic feat. So the order is: First use Courageous Assault (one action), then cast Inspire Courage (one action). Then the ally can Strike as a reaction.

You use courageous assault 1st as it has the "If your next action is to cast the inspire courage composition cantrip" text, most metamagic feats have similar text.

Ohh cool ok, so I may not want to use Lingering Composition in that case with Inspire Courage if I plan to use Courageous Assault multiple times over 2-3 rounds is that right? Ma I understanding this ability correct that if I used Lingering Composition I would only be able to use Courageous Assault once and that is the same round Inspire Courage/lingering Composition was cast?

it's not that you don't "want" to use lingering. it's that you "can't" use lingering.

Lingering needs the exact next action to be Inspire, same for Assault.

So, if you use "lingering" and then you use "assualt" lingering is wasted since the "next action wasn't a composition cantrip" and if you use first "assault" and then "lingering" then because "assault" is a metamagic, and metamagic have the text of "You must use a metamagic action directly before Casting the Spell you want to alter. If you use any action (including free actions and reactions) other than Cast a Spell directly after, you waste the benefits of the metamagic action." you lose the effect from it.

Ah thank you, so basically Eternal Composition wouldn't work with this?
