When can you spend a hero point?

Rules Discussion

Can you spend a hero point after the GM has told you if you've failed a check? Or do you have to choose to spend it before the degree of success is determined?

You choose after you know.

^ concur.

Not much of a point in rerolling if you don't know whether you failed.

HERE is a good breakdown of the steps involved in a "check".

Playing devil's advocate: Well, it existed in PF1 and there were definitely points in doing so.

Not playing devil's advocate: I actually found my answer; I just missed it because it was in a different set of forums. Mark said in a not-entirely-official-but-official-enough statement that the removal of the wording of "before you know the result" was intentional.

Carry on as you were, everyone.

HERE is the direct link.

Which, if that works for you (and other GMs reading this), cool.

If it doesn't (because as Mark says, he's not "official"), then use the text in the Core Rulebook I linked to earlier.

Either way should hopefully address the different mentalities we have out there.
