Duettist Bard Versatile Familiar Question

Rules Questions

I've looked all over and I can't seem to clarify this issue.

I am thinking of making a duettist bard. What I don't understand about it is the 2nd level ability, versatile familiar.

Am I as the bard still getting versatile performance for my wind instruments, and in addition my familiar is as well, or has my familiar purely taken all of the versatile performance buff?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes, you still get the versatile performance ability, since the archetype only alters the ability, but doesn't replace it.

Quote:
This ability alters versatile performance.

Also, the text says that you ("its master") still have it:

Quote:
A duettist’s familiar benefits from its master’s versatile performance class feature.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I think I was just reading alters as replaces and then got confused when it was mentioning my performance. Thanks for the help!
