How do you raise Perception training level?

Rules Discussion

Perception seems to be treated like a skill, in that it has training levels, but it's not listed as a skill or mentioned as something you can use skill training increases on. The only ways I've found, so far, to raise it, are:

  • • Automatically as a class feature
  • • Using the Canny Acumen feat, which you can only take once

Can you use skill training increases on Perception? If so, where is that stated?

(Edit: Sure would be nice if the rudimentary formatting codes worked.)

Perception goes up when your class says it does or you take canny that's it.

Perception isn't a skill in 2e. I believe your class is what raises it. At least that's how it works for fighter (my highest level so far). They start as expert and at 7th lvl it increases to Master with Battlefield Surveyor. Everything has training levels, AC, weapon profs, skills, and perception.

They work.

Perhaps you didn't use the ones for this forum. There's a complete list just below the reply box, which you can consult every time you make a post. Just click the "How To Format Your Text" button.

Ranger Multiclass also has Master Spotter, but that only increases your perception from Expert to Master.

I used the ones as shown in the formatting guide. I have looked at the HTML source for this thread and the ul and li tags are there, but the bullets aren't showing (the ones you see, I typed manually—or maybe you see two bullets!). This is in both Safari and Firefox. Anyhow.

So it's precious few characters as will be taking that True Perception feat from the APG, isn't it? ;-)

Rogues, Rangers, and Investigators are the only ones who qualify for it at the moment, yes. Of course, all members of those Classes qualify, and having at least one of those in a particular party is probably more common than not.
