The melee attack for the caustic wolf mentions knockdown in the melee attack but does not specifies that it takes one action to do. Does it take an extra action to do the knockdown?

Damage 1d6+2 piercing plus 1d4 acid plus Knockdown

I'm unclear on how to read this in a stat block...

It's the standard creature ability Knockdown

It requires an action. Improved Knockdown is a Free Action.

Requirements The monster’s last action was a success with a Strike that lists Knockdown in its damage entry.
Effect The monster knocks the target prone.

So no extra action required
