Animal compainons: size and reach

1) Can you choose NOT to increase your animal companion's size? Why would an adult Pony become the same size of a Horse? Why can't a Small character have a Medium, mature mount?

2) What's the reach of a Large animal companion? Rules about Tall and Long creatures are hardly consistent.

Eg: Dromaeosaur. Is it biped? Does it get enhanced reach? If so, for comparison: Hadrosaurid seems biped and has enhanced reach on both bite and foot attacks; Tyrannosaurus is biped but has enhanced reach only on the bite; Stegosaurus is not biped at all but has enhanced reach on the tail attack.

1) No. If it says size goes up, size goes up. A pony and a horse are the same size category, but that doesn't make them the same size - much like a dwarf is not the same size as a human but both are the same size category. And a small character can have a medium, mature mount companion... if their companion started out small, rather than medium.

2) 5 feet, unless something explicitly says otherwise.

Which is not a necessity for using an animal as a mount, and could also eventually not be the case as new companion options become available.

Reading the text that accompanies that chart I see "Table 9–1 also lists the typical reach for creatures of each size..."

Following the page reference also listed to get more information finds this sentence; "Your reach is typically 5 feet, but weapons with the reach trait can extend this. Larger creatures can have greater reach..." which matches up to reach not being inherently tied to size.

The enlarge spell also woudn't need to mention the increase to reach it provides if simply changer size also changed reach.

No, their Reach stays the same. For their Reach to increase, there would need a line stating their Reach increases. Otherwise, it doesn't (even if it's not logical).

There is not link between Size and Reach in PF2.

The rules not saying to increase the reach of the animal companion when they say to increase the size (and other traits) is the rule saying that large or larger companions keep their 5 foot reach.

The reach of an animal companion does not need to adhere to the "typical" reach of a creature of their given size because animal companions are atypical creatures.

So no, it's not at all "quite clear" that their reach increases... if it were clear, you wouldn't have been asking "What's the reach of a Large animal companion?" in the first place. Sorry that the answer didn't turn out being what you hoped it would be.

I didn't like your answers because they were blank statements with no references to the rules, and when I asked for references you used sentences such as "Larger creatures can have greater reach" to conclude, somehow, that Larger animal companions cannot have, in fact, greater reach.

While the conclusion is correct, your argument wasn't helpful to reach it. When you finally provided a good explanation (your last comment), you did so 2 hours after SuperBidi had already done so.

So, to summarise, I didn't like your answers not because "it didn't turn out being what I hoped it would be", but because they weren't useful, then were redundant and condescending. In fact, what I hoped was that question 1) had a "yes" for an answer, making 2) irrelevant.

I answered your questions. I provided references when you asked for references.

Bidi, and my 3rd post, basically said nothing more than "yes, the earlier answers are correct."

I've got no clue what made you feel like I was condescending before I replied to you requesting I provide the literally impossible rule quote for the nonexistent "reach only changes if something says to change your reach" wording after I'd already provided multiple points of reference that indicate the rules - because I was being polite and helpful until you seemed to be the guy that asks a question but then acts like they are the one that knows the right answer.
