5 ft move and multiple attacks

Rules Questions

Need some help with a ruling. While running pathfinder I had a player Do a 5 ft step back so not to provoke a attack of opportunity cast his spell , But when i took a 5 ft step forward and did multiple attack cause the thief had multiple attack he argued that he can't cause he took a 5 ft step. Told him yes he can cause a 5 ft step can be done before or after a full round action.
After a few mins of debating I let it go cause it was getting late.

But who is right here.

Can you take a 5ft step and still take your multiple attacks

Well, I'm not sure if you meant to ask this in the PF1 forum or PF2.

This is the PF2 forum, and there is no 5ft step. There is a Step which is much the same though.

In PF1 a 5ft step was a free action, and so you still had your move action, standard action, and swift action (or you take a full action by using your move + standard).

In PF2, a Step takes 1 of your 3 actions to move 5ft, but doesn't provoke. You still have 2 actions left, which could be used to perform two strikes, or you might use some class feats to attack depending on what you have. Some feats might let you attack twice (with some extra benefit) for two actions or something like that.

I think HardCase002 thought this was the PF1 Forum because they used the phrase "full round action" to refer to attacking, which obviously isn't how this Edition works, so I'll go ahead and flag it to be removed to the correct location.

Good point Nefreet.

Then to answer the OP's question, yeah you can totally 5ft step and full attack. That's basically the standard for every martial character ever.

It's why everyone loathes to move more than 5ft (because then you can't full attack) and why pouncing barbarians were so popular because they could charge and get a full attack.

Also why Step Up is such a feat tax for every would-be Archer/Caster-Killer...

Or finding a way to be large so you had reach without being restricted from attacking adjacent. Or some other magical means of doing so, like long arm spells.
