Character’s Name

Advice

So question for you all, have a player that created a Fighter who worships Gorum, and decided to use Gorum as their surname (not born with it, but chose it for adventuring). I’m am unsure how Gorum or his other followers might react to that. I would assume, initially, as the PC is 1st level, Gorum might not care for a bit, but... Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I think reactions will depend on how you prove yourself in battle. Gorum is a god of war after all.
If you win every fight and bring glory to his name, people who worship him might eventually end up thinking you are an incarnation or prophet of their god.
That in turn might eventually draw attention from people who worship the Mantis god (the deity that kills people trying to "illegally" become gods) who will try to assassinate you because you are impersonating a deity.

Gorum himself shouldn't really care what you do as long as there is fighting and bloodshed involved. If you do that well, he will be happy.

“The clash of sword on shield is my song, I am in your armor, your blade. Strike at your foes and I guide your hand, For I thirst only for battle.”

—Gorumskagat IV

Lots of people have biblical names. Do you think that if hanging out with a bunch of Christian people and they asked you their name, and you answered, "Chris," anyone would turn their heads?

Nah, you're good. Gorum for it!
