Restoration spell

Rules Discussion

Has anyone had a good read at this spell?

“Restorative magic counters the effects of toxins or conditions.”

I can’t find any reference to ‘toxins’ anywhere in the book. Was this not caught in the errata? Appreciate any help with this.

Pg. 550 - Arsenic "This toxin is a compound of arsenic and other substances."

Pg. 551 - Belladonna "Sometimes called “deadly nightshade,” belladonna is a widely available toxin produced from a plant similar to a tomato."

Pg. 552 - Hemlock "Concentrated hemlock is a particularly deadly toxin that halts muscle action—including that of the victim’s heart."

Pg. 553 - Netlleweed Residue "Concentrated sap of stinging weeds makes an effective toxin."

Pg. 36

Quote:

Strong-Blooded Dwarf

Your blood runs hearty and strong, and you can shake
off toxins. You gain poison resistance equal to half your
level (minimum 1), and each of your successful saving
throws against a poison affliction reduces its stage by 2,
or by 1 for a virulent poison. Each critical success against
an ongoing poison reduces its stage by 3, or by 2 for a
virulent poison.

Pg. 550

Quote:

Alchemical Poisons

Alchemical poisons are potent toxins distilled or extracted
from natural sources and made either stronger or easier to
administer.

I think it's pretty clear that Toxin is a synonym for Poison. Should it be updated? Probably. Should it be allowed to impact play in any way? No.

That’s great! I wasn’t able to do a thorough search yet, but I couldn’t find any official use of the word.

You’re totally right! If they are going to use the word, they should make it more specific.

I appreciate the info.

I would agree with Aratorin, yet it's not unreasonable to assume it means afflictions. Diseases operate in much the same way and "toxins" include infectious diseases. It should be corrected as there is no game terminology that utilizes Toxins, just flavor text.

When a game doesn't create a new definition of a word that applies in the context of the game, a word just means what a word means.

That's why "toxins" shows up in the book but without being a specifically called out game element.
