Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Think there’s any chance we’ll get some player-facing info for this culture soon? I loved the little bit in Gods & Magic.

Yo! I wrote the God Callers section from Gods and Magic and have been involved in most of the projects where we've talked about the Sarkorians. Long story short, I certainly hope that we find more opportunities to keep fleshing the Sarkorians out and keep giving players new lore and mechanics to draw from.

One of the existing places you might look is the Lost Omens World Guide. There's a few paragraphs of lore talking about the Sarkorians on page 32, and page 34 offers the Sarkorian Reclaimer and Sarkorian Survivor backgrounds.

You might also watch for PFS scenarios that reference the Farheaven Clan or Dolok Darkfur, as those particular Sarkorians are allies of the Pathfinder Society and have shown up in our adventures several times.

They’re roughly Native-coded, right? I saw some Haida-looking art once.

I'm Tlingit and I see a lot of familiar elements in the Sarkorians (they use totems to remember the "gods" associated with their communities, and the eidolons they venerate have, coincidentally I believe, always been portrayed as being primarily wolves, bears, eagles, and other common PNW animals) so I recommended that the flag of New Sarkoris should use some PNW styles. Eleanor and I workshopped that a bit and came up with the idea for the Sarkoris Scar flag, which is probably what you're thinking of. That's the one with the wolf, eagle, raven, and bear heads done in a style inspired by Tlingit/Haida art.

The Sarkorians have generally described as a sub-group of the larger Kellid ethnicity. There's a little bit of interesting info buried (p. 16-17) in the Druma book at the tail-end of the PF1 Campaign Setting line. The Kellid populations in Mendev, Numeria, Ustalav, and the
Worldwound are Sarkorians.

Whatever the real-world influences, they're a very interesting bunch with lots of compaign potential. I'd like to see more about god-calling, more about the gods produced thereby, and more mechanical crunch and player options related to Sarkorian culture.

I remember Wes Schneider saying there was also a strong "ancient Irish/British" influence with Sarkoris too: circles of standing stones, woad-painted warriors, and a power structue where the clanlieges competed with one another for power and influence, but always respected the counsel and mediation of the druids. I definitely leaned into that when creating my PC for Wrath of the Righteous, Arloric Dziergas-Highbough

More Sarkorian stuff would be great. One campaign idea I have for Golarion is one that involves people working to get Sarkoris back from the demons left over after the closing of the Worldwound, now that so many of the crusaders have ran off to fight Tar-Baphon.

We've been doing an ongoing storyline along these lines in PFs that started with Scourge of the Farheavens, then Breath of the Dragonskull, the web-fiction blog Far From Heaven, and was most recently touched on in Devil at the Crossroads.

It's less that they are Sarkorians and more that many of them include Sarkorian ancestors. Modern Sarkorians are very diverse and no longer entirely Kellid (something discussed across the Lost Omens books).

Like most cultures in our game, they pull from a broad array of historical an literary sources with a healthy dose of "stuff we made up from scratch". If you're not aware, there's an entire section on god calling and the origination of Sarkorian deities in the new Gods and Magic book.

I've always liked learning more about the people of Sarkoris, and I really like being able to see more now that they have the possibility of reclaiming their lands from the demonic horde. I also hope we see a return of the Summoner class, because I have trouble thinking anything more thematically appropriate for a God Caller.

Shaman, maybe?

At the moment, the best option is actually Cleric, because in the index at the back of Lost Omens Gods and Magic provides the necessary information to play a worshipper of the following three Sarkorian gods:

Alglenweis, daughter of Kostchtchie, who asks of her faithful to perfect their craft, protect works of art, and be ready to act when necessary (CG)

The Stag Mother of the Forest of Stones, protector of nature, women and children, also called She Who Listens (N)

Sturovenen the Dragoneagle, whose dawn-feathered children were summoned by the god-callers of Clan Neverhome (LG)

I really, REALLY wish this kind of info on Sturovenen had been available back in 1e so I could play a Neverhome in WotR, and I doubt he'll be included as an option for players in Owlcat's upcoming adaptation! :(
