PFS 1e at GenCon?

I apologize if this has been announced or discussed elsewhere, but has there been word on whether or not there will be any PFS 1e at GenCon this year? I did a quick search of this forum and couldn't find anything. I'm asking because the answer will probably affect my decision about whether to attend or not.

Thanks in advance for any information on this topic.

There has been no announcement of what adventures will be offered at GenCon.

The GM signups for GenCon does list PFS1e as an option.

My uninformed view is that there will be a fair amount of PFS1e offered at GenCon but PFS2e and Starfinder will make up the majority of the offerings.

Of course, based on demand and availability of GMs, this could change.

I am also uninformed. No idea if Paizo will formally offer 1st edition PFS; the signup option might just have been a holdover. That said, I don't believe anything stops another organized group from offering to run PFS 1st Edition adventures at GenCon, much like how multiple groups run DDAL adventures there.

Yes, we intend to offer some PF1 at all our sponsored events including PaizoCon, Origins, and Gen Con. The challenge is deciding what to offer. We’ve always focused on the newest material, but that no longer applies to 1E. So, we are considering offering scenarios based on themes like Blackros, Grandmaster Torch, Jormandun, etc. We’re also interested in trying to avoid cross-over between schedules for those who attend multiple events. There will be a very health offering of high-level and Seeker content at Origins. I suspect that Gen Con will see a return to some early season scenarios.

Like the past few years, ticket sales will influence how much we offer. We are expecting a greater interest in the other systems, but are prepared to flex up with 1E if the demand is there.

I’m not sure if it’s still in place, but for a number of years we had an exclusivity clause with Gen Con. Meaning that only our official events could be listed as OPF. Any GM is certainly able to run whatever they want, but it could not be listed as an official PFS event. You could GM an adventure path or a module and even issue chronicle sheets at the conclusion, but the convention would not list it as a society event. And of course you could run custom material. There are a lot of reasons why this was done, but the most important one was to avoid confusing players who assume all society play was in the Sag. If that agreement is still in place, a GM would not be able to advertise their event as society play.

Would it be possible for folks to volunteer to do specific 1st ed adventures? Say, I offer to run The Moonscar over a period of three time slots.

We have decided against offering modules and other events that would require multiple sessions to complete. So, while you are welcome to sign up to run 1E material, we have not yet determined what those scenarios will be. Of course that does not prevent a GM from offering that material on their own. It just won’t be in the Sag nor will it be listed as official OPF/PFS play.
OTOH, one change for this year is we are not building a schedule for overnights though we are offering the space for open play. We will have staff on hand providing security for the room but who will not be organizing games. If a GM needs a table in order to run a game overnight our HQ staff will direct them to one of our tables and collect generic tickets from the players. The hours for this open play will probably 0200-0700. More info will follow as we confirm details.

I was wondering about the overnight slot.

Unfortunately, participation has fallen every year since we launched it and it is simply not a good use of our limited resources. Since we have the room for the duration it means we can offer the space for people who want to use it, but we are just not going to schedule or coordinate any events that might occur. Any GM that wants to run an event overnight will have to organize the game on their own. A representative of our HQ staff will be present to direct groups to a table and to collect generic tickets to cover the use of the table. All the rules for decorum still apply. None of out departments (info desk, prize station, etc.) will be operating overnight.
