Weapon sizes a thing of the past?

I just realized that our party's dwarf ranger spent the last game wielding a small a +1 shortbow we got off a halfling adversary.

So I looked up the rules for wielding inappropriately-sized weapons. I couldn't find any. Then I realized that there don't appear to be rules for weapons of any size outside of Small and Medium aside from bulk and pricing, and even between those two sizes, there appears to be no real distinction worth mentioning.

Are weapon sizes essentially gone in 2e? Are weapons one size fits all?

Yep.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The rules appear to exist for oversized weapons per Giant barbarian (seems to be "clumsy 1"?) but otherwise that seems to be it.

Good riddance, I say! Now small martials aren't arbitrarily worse.

It's basically "there's no difference between small and medium sized gear" and "outside of that, you just can't use the item unless you have something that tells you that you can."

We already had the issue where the armor you take off a 4' Dwarf can fit a 6'8" half-orc. So as long as you're not trying to use a spear that's kinda the right size, and not the size of your finger or the size of a mature redwood, it'll work out.
