Lamp Oil and Caltrops?

Rules Questions

Hi,

Are caltrops and lamp oil poured on the ground considered difficult terrain
for the purpose of halting a charging attack?

What would be the acrobatics DC of running through such a square? I couldn't find any rules for oil just ice:

Ice (Slick)

Source: Paizo Blog

A frozen lake, a sheen of thick ice on a dungeon or cavern floor, or some other cold and slick surface, slick ice can be hard to traverse, but can also increase the speed of creatures that are agile or foolhardy enough to utilize its surface’s lack of friction.

A creature traversing slick ice at more than half speed is required to make a DC 15 Acrobatic check at the start of the movement. Failure causes the creature to fall prone at the start of the movement. Running or charging on slick ice increases the DC by 5, with the same effect on a failed skill check. A creature that succeeds at this check by 5 or more can increase its move across the ice by 10 feet, but is considered flat-footed until the start of its next turn. Creatures (like those with enough levels of barbarian or rogue) that can’t be caught flat-footed at the start of combat are immune to this flat-footed effect as well.

I don't believe the DC for running through oil on a stoney or dirt surface should be as high as running through ice. How do you handle this?

Thanks.

If the attack roll of the Caltrops is successful, then the charging creature stops... it's in the item description of Caltrops. There is no save DC, just an attack roll.

Lamp oil simply burns for 2rnds and deals 1D3 fire damage. There is no save DC, but it doesn't stop, slow, or hinder a charging creature. There is no mention of Lamp oil making a surface slippery, although it's not hard to imagine that it would.

You might be thinking of the Grease spell... or at least might want to start with the dynamics of the spell to help make your decision.

Liberty's Edge

It all depends on what the "lamp oil" is made of.
From the description, it burns rapidly when poured on the ground, so it seems more like some kind of kerosene than lubricant oil. I wouldn't impose any moment penalty for entering the square.

If it was olive oil or a similar oil it would require an acrobatics check, but not burn so fast and so easily.

A bag of marbles covers a 5' square and requires a DC10 Reflex save or you fall prone. Anyone moving at half speed can get through without needing a check.

Maybe that is what you are looking for?
