I mean, technically there are no rules that say you *can't* equip a creature companion with gear. . . but there are also no rules for how that would work, or how they would even use it.
My gut instinct is that extra armor should cost "magic item that provides a small AC bonus" levels of credits, since a companion already has 'armor'. Weapons, should need to be customized for the critter, and the trainer would need to take a special feat for their companion to be proficient.

So far, only riding saddles and EF collars are available.
I imagine more creature companion specific gear will come about in future books, as will spells and themes.
But as is, they evolve like NPCs.

A horse cannot use a gun or a knife but you could make armor for a horse. I would say you can make armor for the animal companion but it may be costly.
Of course Master Han Del of the Web has a good argument for the "not at all"
The issue with giving them armor is that they already have AC increased as a function of level. So you'd have to take that out, figure out which ability modifier is DEX, then buy them armor to get them... right back where they started.
A companion item that lets them benefit from an armor upgrade or two would fit better.

Good point. Was not thinking about that. What about beneficial target spells? Something that could add armor, resistances or DR?
