Errata: Spell Blending Thesis

Rules Discussion

I just realised Spell Blending is the only Thesis that has no effect at Level 1 (until gaining 2nd level spells).
That seems really off from design perspective. The easiest solution seems granting a bonus Cantrip or 2 (Familiar can grant 1 plus other stuff).
Doesn't seem huge boost in long term, there's many ways to get bonus Cantrips (and stacking them all should have reduced marginal benefit).
But it makes the Thesis relevant at low levels, and just seems like the right thing to do. Why not?
Any other ideas for low level benefit?

You can also trade any spell slot for two additional cantrips, though you cannot trade more than one spell slot at a time for additional cantrips in this way.

The thing is Familiar Thesis has 3 abilities which can all be Cantrip Connection AFAIK.
(it has "every time you select this ability" wording explicitly envisioning taking it multiple times)
Which are on top of 1st level spells, not at their expense. So it's hard to see Spell Blending as benefit at these levels.
Cantrip Connection cantrips aren't changeable outside Retraining, but that isn't significant loss considering your base Cantrips are.
So granting bonus Cantrips would allow rough parity if not trading 1st level spell (or superior # of cantrips if trading 1st level slot).

Your familiar can die and takes a week to replace. That's a significant risk compared to spell blending, which is inherent to your character. Doesn't seem like that big a deal to me.

Actually, upon second reading I don't think you can take Canrip connection three times. "You can change it with retraining" wasn't making sense to me and now I understand why.

Quote:
Cantrip Connection (Source Core Rulebook pg. 218): You can prepare an additional cantrip, or if you have a repertoire, instead designate a cantrip to add to your repertoire every time you select this ability; you can retrain it but can’t otherwise change it. You must be able to prepare cantrips or add them to your repertoire to select this.

It is saying that you pick one cantrip that becomes the cantrip that you add to your list when you decide to select cantrip connection. That is, you don't get to choose a different cantrip each time you use it. If you pick ray of Frost, it stays ray of Frost every time you use it.... Unless you retrain it.

Note the singular language: you prepare AN additional cantrip, designate A cantrip, you can retrain IT.

Why would Spell Blending be as good as Familiar Thesis at first level ? Especially considering it gets far better at high levels.

Yes, it is pretty clear to me that you can only select a particular familiar/master ability once. Otherwise selecting Spell Battery multiple times, for example, would be kinda silly imo.
