Question about cantrips.

What does it mean when it says half your level rounded up? I'm a newbie to playing RPGs. Is there an example of it?

It means that you start from lvl 1, and every 2 lvl you get an upgrade.

So lvl 1, 3, 5, etc...

It means that you divide you level in half, then add 1 if the result is an odd score (minimum 1, maximum 10).

A breakdown would look as follows:

Lvl / half, rd up
01 / 01
02 / 01
03 / 02
04 / 02
05 / 03
06 / 03
07 / 04
08 / 04
09 / 05
10 / 05
11 / 06
12 / 06
13 / 07
14 / 07
15 / 08
16 / 08
17 / 09
18 / 09
19 / 10
20 / 10

For example, a wizard can cast a spell with a level equal to half his character level rounded up. Therefore, an 11th-level wizard could cast spells of 6th-level and lower.

Hope that helps.

Thank you!

It is somewhat unfortunate that the word "level" was chosen to describe both character experience and spell power. But once you recognize that character level and spell level are not the same thing, it gets easier to understand.
