Multitalented half elf

Rules Questions

I just started playing pathfinder and my character is a half-elf rogue/ranger. The rule book says that half elfs have two favored classes at lvl 1. Does that mean you get the class skills and class features for both classes at lvl 1?

You can't be a rogue and a ranger at level 1 unless you're playing with in a party with the (not official) Gestalt rules.

Usually, you pick one class for each level, including 1. So when you're level 7, you could be a rogue 3/ranger 4, for example. You onle get the extra skll rank/HP only when leveling in your favorit class. So if you picked ranger for this hypothecial character, you'd get the bonus 4 times.

The Half-Elf only allows you to get the bonus for two classes, so you could pick ranger and rogue and get the bonus 7 times.

If you are indeed playing under Gestalt rules, ask your GM how he wants to handle it.

Are we sure he is talking about 2e?
I didn't read anything about favored classes.

Although Gyros seems to be confused, speaking about "favored classes" from PF1, there is a PF2 feat called "multitalented" that gives you a second class, in a sense. But it's a ninth-level feat, so you're not getting it right off the bat.

The best bet is taking a multiclass archetype, starting at 2nd level. You'd have to choose one class (rogue or ranger) at 1st level, and choose a MC archetype dedication at 2nd level for the other one. Each choice will give you specific options with the second class, rather than carte-blanche access to both classes.

Half elves have advantages with the multitalented feat, since their heritage will allow them to chose whatever class they want regardless the ability score requirements.

But I am not sure he was referring to it.
