Attack of the Swarm is a Metaphor for Gen Con

I just finished reading Fate of the Fifth and, no spoilers, I think the guys who wrote it...might be sick of going to Gen Con.

Hear me out!

The AP is set on Suskillon, a rural industrial farming community with a large megapolis. The Planet's most interesting feature is it's extremely hot summers and cold winters (*cough* INDIANA).

A rampaging horde of weird alien creatures who cannot be reasoned with and have bizarre, hard to understand motives but are prone to rage filled fights and have ravenous appetites descend on this community.

I formally request we change the name of this AP to "The Bugs that Ate Indianapolis."

Seems awfully rude to The Swarm to be comparing them to tabletop gamers.

I am moderately sure that many bug colonies spend a lot of time, cleaning themselves and the area around them, and I am pretty sure that most large or groups of gamers would eat more things than most swarms.

Aren't the Swarm in reasonable shape, though?

I love how this thread devolved instantly into stating that invasion by the swarm would be more merciful fate :D

I think we can all agree that consumption by the Swarm would be a quick, relatively painless death considering that the Swarm consume their meals with a significant alacrity.

Those of us who have stood in the food line or the bathroom line at a gaming convention know that this is a hell that can last forever.

Like the Swarm, Gen Conners are separated into specialized troopers. The speedy anime fanbois bring down the prey, the LARPers immobilize it, and then the dice chuckers rumble in to consume the genetic material of their unlucky quarry.

Ha ha, I did write the Forever Reliquary right after running Pathfinder Playtest demos in the Gen Con exhibition hall, so maybe there was some subconscious influence! When those doors open at the start of the day, the people just keep coming and coming and coming!

What solidified this theory for me was reading the Codex entry for Suskillon: You guys described Planet Indiana to a "T".

I thought it was supposed to be "Planet Australia?"

It dawns on me now that the Midwest and parts of Australia have a lot in common.

It is indeed sanctioned for Organized Play! You can find the sanctioning documents linked at the bottom of the product page for any of the books.

So don’t delay! Suskillon needs you!
