Slough Duration

Rules Questions

So Slough has a duration of “Instantaneous” in its stat box, but then it says it deals 1d4 Con damage “per round” in the details. Which one is it?

Once it starts taking effect the target takes 1d4 Con damage per round until it has taken 5 points of Con damage. Then it stops taking damage from the spell. Then there's a bunch of other penalties until the Con damage is healed by whatever means.

As an instantaneous spell it can't be dispelled or dismissed once the initial save is failed. Which is odd but that's the way it's written. That's despite the effect taking time to resolve.

I think part of it is so that you can't take the skin that's been shed, cast dispel magic on it, and then make it reappear on the creature.

Possibly in part to prevent weirdness from what happens to a creature getting skin put back onto it after it regrows its skin.

What a weird spell. I'm surprised it doesn't remove natural armor bonuses or anything.
