Are druids still prof with this classic weapon?

It's a martial weapon and druids aren't proficient with martial weapons, only simple.

Looks like you'd have to take a special feat or multiclass (fighter) to get it.


Yeah, it's odd that it's not specified like it was in the playtest. I'm going to tentatively assume it's an error.


It makes more sense to go with what's written. It isn't simple, they don't get it.


Martial weapons are uniformly generally better than simple weapons, or are at least supposed to be. So giving Druids one and only one martial weapon would probably signpost "use this weapon, it is the best one." So there's no Druid scimitar proficiency anymore.

What PossibleCabbage said. It would be an undue optimization pressure on any class to give it exactly one martial weapon; it works out with clerics specifically because their deity has a favored weapon that clerics of that deity should be mostly using, but with druids we all probably wouldn't want to see 90% of melee weapon druids with scimitars.
