I was at Gen Con this year and was talking with staff. Very nice group. I saw that Pathfinder 2 core book did not sell out at Gen
Con like Starfinder. It is a best seller on Amazon US which is a good sign. Also allot of people may have Pre Ordered/Subscribed and got them sent to the house. I really do like it and think it is great game. I hope it sells very well for them. Just was curious about initial sales.

Selling out may make for some snappy ad copy, but it's a terrible thing to do, because that means you didn't make enough to supply demand and miss out on potential sales and annoy customers. Selling out of Starfinder at Gen Con a few years ago made it easier for us to pack up the booth at the end of the show, but it caused a lot of frustration and aggravation and second guessing and other ripple effects down the road that would have been avoided had we not sold out.
A book doesn't have to sell out in order to be "successful".
We don't make our actual sales numbers public, and I'm not at Gen Con to see how much of what we brought to the show sold (and the show's still going, too)... but from what I can see it seems to be selling quite well.

I think a big part of the HB deal is that it's perfectly timed to provide the Core materials that have been released so far and to give people a good taste of the materials which they can then personally own (instead of just using the free online resources) and help make the buy-in more affordable with an obvious sort of big red arrow pointing towards the APG.

Paizo started doing PF1 Humble Bundles, and then shortly after that PF2 came out. I assumed that Paizo was using Humble Bundle to get a bit of extra money off of products that probably wouldn't be selling as much, as well as raise money for charity at the same time.
Then Paizo offered the PF2 CRB in a Humble Bundle, and I assumed it was a way for them to get more folks into the game to buy more of their books, as well as raise money for charity at the same time.
Then Paizo offered a whole bunch of PF2 books that are less than a year old in a Humble Bundle, along with some very useful map packs and collected short stories. I also saw them directing people to where they could reduce the amount of money Paizo got and increase the amount of money the charities get. At this point, it seems more reasonable to assume that raising money for charity is the main goal, and any of the other stuff that they get out of it is the "as well as" part.

A big part of the latest Humble Bundle deal isn't to shore up soft sales. It's us trying to put our BEST sellers out to help support charities that need the help, so it made sense to put our strongest releases into there to help raise as much money for the charities as possible. AND if you do buy the Humble Bundle remember you can adjust the sliders so more of the money can go to the charities (we can't adjust the baseline, is my understanding).
