Magic Fang Targeting

So the Wild Druid sample shows it has Heal and Magic Fang as it’s first level spells. Cool. You can Wild Morph then enhance you’re claws.
Wrong.
Magic Fang has a target of Ally and according to pg 456 “You are not your own ally.” Which disappoints me because unless you’re running with a Monk, Magic Fang becomes a lot less useful.
Unless I’m missing something...

The animal companion rules say "the only item bonuses they can benefit from are to speed and AC". So it looks like animal companions can not benefit from magic fang.
