The AR entry for The Dead Roads says, "The character options in this book are legal for play except the blasphemous chalice. A shabti can take only one origin feat."

So, what constitutes a character option? The new race definitely, the new archetype and feats, almost certainly, but what about the new equipment, special materials and magic items?

I don't have the book itself, but checking the archives of nethys, it seems like the Shabti race actually isn't in the book (Nethys lists sources for shabti as Bestiary 5 pg. 227, Pathfinder #84: Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh pg. 90, and doesn't mention Shabti in The Dead Roads entry).

In the event that it does have a sidebar with shabti stats or something, it's likely that the race actually isn't a legal option without a boon, given that new races haven't been added to the list of available options for a while, and when they have been added, it's usually been because of the actions of pathfinder society. Thus you can't select the origin feats without being a shabti which (most certainly) requires a boon.

Aside from that - yeah, archetypes, feats, new equipment clearly are included since one of them is clearly excluded (the chalice). I'm fairly sure that special materials are also included.

Otherwise, check the book. Does it have a heading that says "character options" or a section that speaks about "character options"? If yes, then the AR is referencing to that section.

Sorry, missed out the word "options" after race.

None of the chapters are usefully called character options. :)

Skimming the PDF, I see the following character options. I haven't read over the AR to see which are PFS-legal.
* A magic item on pg 37.
* Everything in the chapter that begins on pg 62.
* Most of the chapter that begins on pg 68. The exception being pg 72. This is a sub-type used in the definition of races. Not a race or other PC option.

Shabti are not defined in this book and are, therefore, not a character option from this book.

The races presented in the bestiary chapter are NPC races, not PC options.

In conclusion: magic items, feats and archetypes.
