Cleric Archetype: Divine Paragon Questions?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey I'm fresh on the forum and I'm sorry if this discussion has been had before. I'm making an evil cleric who struck a deal with Apollyon to become his first cleric (since it seems he has no churches or anything). The deal rides on the condition that my character fulfills his backstory goal of killing something in The Dark Tapestry and bringing enough plague there to gain him a bit of foothold to raid it for power.

I wanted to make a guided hand (WIS) build with a cleric/inquisitor hybrid build. I was wondering if the Divine Paragon archetype can also necessitate Fiendish Obedience as opposed to Deific Obedience legally? Also if anyone has suggestions to make my ability to disease targets more viable please feel free to make suggestions! I'm well aware that a disease build is probably not worth much but I really love Apollyon and his lore. Thank you in advance!

Strictly by RAW, it doesn't permit Fiendish(/Celestial/Fey/Monitor) Obedience, but talk to your GM. The Book of the Damned has fairly simple guidelines for this sort of thing. Basically, expect to receive your second and third boons at 13th and 16th level instead of the normal levels.

As for plague, one of the volumes of Mummy's Mask had an article with spells and such. Stuff to let you accelerate diseases and such.

Thanks for responding! I thought this would be the case, I'm honestly surprised they don't have any divine paragon equivalents for evil characters. I'll be looking up the Mummy's Mask material tonight, hopefully I can infest everything in my path!

why don’t you just take deific obedience and divine paragon for Apollyon? I’m missing why it’s not alignment neutral.

I think it's because Apollyon is classified as a fiend/demon as opposed to a conventional deity. I thought the same to myself but I assume because Fiendish Obedience pops up in the same book where Apollyon is more thoroughly introduced (boons and all) that we have to use that to benefit from him. Also Paragon in most of the books where the word pops up insinuates good alignments.

I'd be more than happy to be told I'm wrong because faster boons is nice.

The BotD entries do indeed require use of Fiendish Obedience, as the higher-level boons are pushed in power level beyond the assumptions of Deific Obedience. ^_^
