Alchemical reagents from Plane-Hopper's Handbook M or F

In the Plane-Hopper's Handbook there seem to be some alchemical reagents where the text states: "When you use a ... as a material component or focus for a spell " but they never go into detail when it is a material component and when a focus.

Could I buy 1 of each of those and use it as a focus each time I cast a spell where it applies?

Yes, they are able to be used as a focus (or a material component is you hate your money). So you can just keep reusing it as a focus.

If you are looking at these for PFS bear in mind there is a campaign clarification which specifies they must be used as components rather than foci.

Material means that it's consumed. Focus means that it can be reused.

I'd say that the intent is 100% to be a consumable. It's just flat out broken to be a focus, even if it is technically RAW-legal.

Granted, it's annoyingly expensive to use as a consumable though,since there are other things that can be used to get that same sort of bonus, they're just more limited in functionality (like only working with necromancy spells, or enchantment spells, etc.). I guess the cost of convenience is pretty significant.

If it's too expensive I'd maybe just lower the price. Consider asking the GM to reduce the price to 100 gp or something (if you're even willing to pay that).
