Advice for a Pyro-Kineticist. (or for kineticist in general)

So I'm playing a 5th level Pyro-Kineticist in a Reign of Winter campaign. So far, he has been extremely helpful, but the Big Baddies have caught onto his weakness, i.e. he can only use fire efficiently. Expanded Element is coming up soon, and as much as I would like to stay with fire, I need to choose a second element that is not as easily blocked. I was seriously considering Earth, as it doesn't do elemental damage.

So here is what I need help with: What would you consider the best second element to learn, and are there any feats or items that would help a Kineticist in particular? Feats and Items have to be Paizo only though, no third party.


I like air and aether, personally, because they allow for a whole lot of bullshit (technical term).

Air can give you permanent flight, celerity, life bubble, and a ridiculously long reach on your blast.

Aether can give you telekinetic maneuvers, invisibility, and telekinetic haul.

Both can give you suffocate and some other cool things.

Water wouldn't be the worst choice either since theres a lot of snow and ice for a hydrokineticist to manipulate for battlefield control.

Earth might still be better than water just cause all that snow and ice is usually on the ground anyway.

You've definitely got the right idea for picking a physical blast for you second one and i dont think the "core" elements really have a *bad* choice (though some synergize better than others). Dig through the list of utility talents and see what options beyond blasting tickles your fancy.


Since you are playing Reign of Winter, maybe Water might be good. This would let you grab the talent icewalker (can move on top of ice). Of course taking water and not cold blast.

Earth definetly has a generally more useful blast, and the talents are good.

Feat wise, the kineticist doesn't have much use for them. Grab point-blank and precise shot, and then what ever you want. Mobile Gathering is good if you want to move while gathering. Gather Might (and Enduring Might) gives a large bonus (up to +10) to Str, Con and Dex; in exchange for being very vulnerable on the charge up. Kinetic Invocation has a few good spells, so looking at that would be good.

If you are going to play the counterspell game, then Kinetic Counter (readied fire blast counters cold spells and abilities) is really good. Else Improved Elemental Counter, which a lot more option in what spells you can counter, but you can't counter abilities.

Kineticist don't really have items, Kineticist's Diadem gives some bonus dice to matching blasts, but they are really expensive (+3d6 for 98k gp). I suggest maxing out a belt of Con/Dex. The get a really high Cloak of Resistance and ring of Protection. Expend any remaining gold on what ever you want.

* Also get a conductive weapon if you want to go for full attacks.
