Last year, while I enjoyed the after-dinner talks, I didn't eat very much; I'm not sure if I wasn't feeling very well, or just not hungry. This year I decided not to attend the banquet to save some money; doesn't seem worth it if you don't eat much. Anyone else not going, but still attending the convention?

The hype of what they announce is the big deal.
I'll admit, that was a draw for me in earlier years. Now, however, given that the banquet announcements are streamed and many attendees post updates here as they happen, one doesn't need to attend the banquet to hear these announcements; there are other avenues one can hear them nearly as fast as they're made. Also, two years ago, one of the banquet announcements was that some announcements would be held back until GenCon. After that, I just didn't feel I needed to attend the banquet anymore to hear about upcoming releases and future projects.
During the banquet last year, I played through the first book of an adventure path instead.

My group and I plan on heading to downtown/pier Seattle (none of us has ever been to the Pacific NW).
A great idea have a lot of fun !
be warned that traffic in seattle is at an all time low (or high.. its bad its really really bad) right now so I highly recommend taking the light rail into downtown this has the added perk that no designated driver is needed should you be of the adult beverage persuasion.

If you've established a rapport with any of the Paizo staff and want a chance to break bread with them, it's a great part of the con.
This will be my first year taking a pass on the banquet, probably to hang out with TOZ and company somewhere where the seats aren't the same class of chairs we'll be gaming on all weekend. :D

I'm still going to the banquet this year (11th), even though I have no interest at all in the announcements (not going with P2E). Announcements are incredible for the room's energy, but I'll be going for the food, the company (in line and at the table), and of course the trivia contest (literally the best part of the Con).
What vittles are served?
They do a great job of giving options for different dietary needs. The offerings typically include a variety of salads (leafy and otherwise), veggies, Otik's spiced potatoes, and usually at least three meats(all very high quality for a buffet). Also a very enticing dessert table.
Everything is kept well-stocked (since 2012 anyhow), usually with three sets of tables for very swift progress once it opens up.

I'm not going to the banquet this year either and so I've scheduled my Lottery game to run through Saturday evening as an option for others who aren't attending.
If you can spare time for a module-length experience, check out The Book in the Old House.

I am not going to the Banquet this year either.
I would prefer to chat with folks in a quieter environment -- or game!
(My favorite part of last year's banquet was talking to people while waiting in line.)
That's my favorite part, too. But I also love attending the banquet and chatting with my favorite Paizo staffers. The announcements are either cool -- at which point we all squee -- or really dumb, at which point we have the pleasure of laughing at a poorly made video or confusing advertisement. It's a win-win situation.
The vittles are interesting, but watch out for dessert hoarders. Every year there are a few people who load up their plates high with desserts, not realizing that if they do so, that means less for everyone else.
I wind up special-ordering a vegan meal each year. Last year I got a curried tofu with lots of veggies. It was great. Sorry you're not going to the banquet, Eadie. I was hoping to sit with you!
Hmm

It depends on whether we've managed to wrap up AFI or not, and what sort of rest-state I'm in, as I am GMing on the overnight.
If things are looking really good, I may be interested in helping something fire, but otherwise, rest is important.

I think we've got about 800-ish people at PaizoCon and about 400-ish at the banquet. There's usually a few people who submit events specifically during the banquet Because there's not a lot of people who run games during that time, (thank you Al Rigg, & Chaosium!) several of the rooms for individual games, and almost all of the spaces with multiple tables are open for use.
We do still have some banquet tickets that will be available for purchase at the show. We put a number on sale and reserve some buffer seats for new employees that start, etc. You can ask after them at the convention store if you're still interested. Additionally, there are usually some guests we've arranged badges & banquet tickets for who do not show up for the banquet. We often don't know how many of these there might be until the very last minute, so if you're really wanting to go and everything's been sold out, check-in with me right before the store closes.
