Pre orders not through Paizo directly

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Cause the only information being talked about that I've found is subscription questions. My question though because I don't know much about the subject. I just put a pre order in though my local shop (store credit will cover it). What kind of time line can I expect that my pre ordered deluxe version will be available for me to pick up? Is it just a matter of when they get copies in for regular sales or is it a different process? Any information would be great as like I said, this is something that I really don't know much about.

From what I gathered, it would be better to ask third parties about their time frame. Paizo staff rarely know what happen with them. If they don't know, there's little chance you'll be able to get more information here. It's much more probable that the third parties will be the first informed about that info that affect them.
I'd love to be able to help you more. I hope you find the information you seek. :3

Paizo's standard practise is to release books on Paizo.com on the same day as they go live everywhere else. As such, it should be August the 1st, no matter where you preorder it from.

That said, your retailer won't be getting them from Paizo. They'll have placed an order with a distributor, who will get them from Paizo. Given all those moving parts, it's possible there could be a delay. I think this is especially true if you're not in America. There is one distributor to Australia I know of who have an annoying rule that they only ship full shipping containers to Australia - so it's quite common that preorders arrive a few weeks after streetdate as the books sit in the country of origin waiting for a container to fill up. Customs is another frequent source of delay, unfortunately (or at least they get blamed for delays).

It's all good. I know that there are times you can get from direct source an item a day or two before it is supposed to be ready, but with third party specialty items, I wasn't sure how Paizo will react towards that, if the store puts it in now or and waits until regular shipment or if Paizo's shipping company will ship to stores first before customers. It's certainly not unheard of for a store to receive shipment a week or two before public sale is actually ready. Hopefully we'll get some more information on that, since the only information seems to be centered around subscription statuses right now (for valid reasons of course).

That would suck horribly. Thankfully I'm stateside, but that still sucks to hear about. Thanks for the insight Steve, I won't mind having to wait a day or two. If it ends up being three weeks though, I'm gonna have someone's head at that shop lol.

If they don't do pickups for Gen-Con this year, then I'll probably just order from Amazon whenever they go up for order.

Pre-orders at stores (that offer them) help the stores estimate how many to order from their distributor, who then in turn will have a better estimate for how many they want to order from Paizo. There's not a mechanical difference as far as how those orders physically are sent to stores, but usually the more solid data the better the estimates are going to be on how many to order, which in turn can make it more likely stock is received on time and in the qualities it was ordered at.

If you know you are going to get your copy from your local store/retailer, definitely check in with them to see if they have a pre-order policy.

Thank you for the information Sara! I already contacted them and filled out their pre order form for it last week, but just hadn't seen any information from you guys about pre ordering. Looking forward to getting that deluxe copy, definitely something cool to have!

Will Amazon do a pre-order?

I live in Brazil, and unfortunately Paizo shipping is not very good for International.

I apologize in advance if this is a bad thread to ask this question, but is it better/worse/same for Paizo if we order via Paizo, Amazon, or a local game store?

When you look at raw numbers, its better for us when folks order directly through paizo.com. However, we feel that ultimately what is best for Paizo is when people purchase through the channel that works best for them.

Just pre-ordered and July is provided on the estimate. (Which can line up with the expected Aug 1st launch date when accounting for shipping times) I have most of the 2.0 products coming for my game group so I hope everything arrives at the same time :-)

I would absolutely love to order straight from Paizo, but sadly my gaming budget is very limited. Hence why I ordered through my local shop because I was finally able to unload my MTG collection for store credit which I used solely for the purpose of table top gaming when I saw something I could use rather than a "ooh, it's new and shiny" lol. This will clear out the remaining balance I have with them, so I figured a deluxe edition would be a nice addition to the collection, and over time I'm fairly positive that I'll pick up another copy of the rule book with updates. Providing I can get a physical group to play it of course, my schedule sucks for people around here...
