Question about Feats and Magic Wands

Rules Questions

HI, we have a mage who has used weapon focus Ray to gain a +1 to his rays he casts. He is wanting to apply this feat to magic wands as well as he says he can use it on his ray, so why not a magic wand. My first inclination is no because he is actually casting the spell to get the use of the feat, but the rules are not very clear.

SO, can a magic user, who takes weapon focus Ray, gain the +1 from the feat on a wand of scorching ray as well?

Yup

Silver Crusade

Yeah, it's a factor of aiming the spell, not an intrinsic change to the spell.

The key point here is, does the wand produce a ray? If it does, then weapon focus (ray) applies. So yes for wands of ray of frost, scorching ray, enervation, etc, but no to wands of (for example) stone discus.
