electric eel shifter sspect

Rules Questions

It is rather strange the eel animal companion as well as the dire-version of electric eels both have aquatic as their subtype.
For some reson the small electric eel both are based on does not. I guess thats why the shifter aspect from wilderness origins lacks it as well. Is that on purpose or was that just an oversight waaaaay back when the creature was released?

A bit of real world biology crept into the original monster stat block. Apparently, electric eels are air breathing fish that must surface to breathe at least once every ten minutes, which makes them similar in that regard to dolphins and whales (which I think can actually hold their breaths longer in some cases).

Whoever created the animal companion versions either did not know this or decided that they would play better as fully aquatic water breathers.
