Talisman Crafter Occultist-Confusion on 2 bits

Rules Questions

Howdy. I'm referring to THIS CLASS I wasn't sure whether to put this in to the Rules thread, or advice thread. As I am asking for help undrestanding. but I'm also asking for ideas. Ultimately I decided on Rules as that was the main focus.
I sectioned into spoiled areas. just so it isn't some long post.

So, I'm a little confused on what spells can be valid and can not be valid for talisman form.:

"At 2nd level, a talisman crafter can inscribe spellbound talismans in addition to her master talismans, infusing small tokens she crafts with psychic spells she knows that normally affect one or more target creatures (but not spells that target the caster, spells that affect an area, spells that create effects, or other such spells)."

So.. It basically can only be one that targets Creatures directly? So I could not use this, with spells that target say Items?
The creatures restriction seems fairly straight forward. But then it mentions AOEs, "effects" and such. Which confuses me.. as I don't think spells that target a creature can create any such things above in the first place. So I'm a bit confused why that line exists.

The second bit I could use help with: Warding Seal:

Honestly... this kind of just confuses me. I did go read spell glyph section but I think I need help with it as well. It was kind of confusing what it used for and how..
I'd love if someone could give me a break down or an example of this.

Warding Seal (Su): At 5th level, a talisman crafter can inscribe a warding seal, infusing an inscribed glyph with psychic energy. Inscribing the seal follows the rules for drawing magic circles, takes 1 minute, and requires the occultist to expend 1 point of mental focus (either generic focus or focus from any one of her implements). As a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, the talisman crafter expends 1 point of mental focus to scribe a special seal, infusing the glyph with a psychic spell she knows that affects one or more creatures and expending the spell slot just as if she had cast the spell. This seal holds the spell energy in check until it’s triggered by conditions set forth when the seal is crafted or until the occultist refreshes her mental focus. The seal functions as the spell glyph option of the glyph of warding spell. At 17th level, the talisman crafter’s fast circles ability applies to her warding seals, and she treats the ability as the greater spell glyph option of the greater glyph of warding spell

So.. could someone break down the meaning in a "tired brain dead grad student" proof way?
======

Lastly!
I would adore anyone who happens to know Occultist spell lists well to give me some suggestions. Really right now, all that occurs to me much is Shocking Grasp. Though the damage on that isn't great, 5d6 and all prior to metamagic shenangans

The ability is very neat to me. but I'm lacking one cool ideas.

Thank you kindly for reading

First, I don't think they're saying that a spell targeting a creature can be an area effect, they're just saying 'spells which target creatures only, no AoEs'.

Second, you spend a minute and a point of mental focus to draw the glyph. Then you spend a full round action and another point of mental focus, and a spell slot, to charge the glyph with a spell that you know. It then acts like a glyph of warding holding that spell until either it discharges or you recover your mental focus.

Last, you could use metamagic to make that shocking grasp more effective like a magus would, or you might charge the glyph with a higher level spell. Bestow curse perhaps. Node of blasting is probably a better spell if you want damage and have time - as a permanent spell you can stack up lots of them without using warding seal at all.
