Rough rider feat

With the rough rider feat do you still have to do handle an animal action to mount a animal? I know from reading it the ride feat let's you be mounted on a creature and give it a command an animal action without having to do handle an animal but I'm wondering if the animal becomes friendly and becomes your mount and stays with us?
