Folio Re-Roll

Liberty's Edge

Hello All-

I have a quick question. I was recently at a Convention and, while playing, I wanted to use my Folio re-roll. The GM wanted to see it, so I happily obliged. But, here's the problem, he said I had to be 'actively using it' not just 'have it'. I never argue with GM's so i put it away, passed on the re-roll and said no more. Is that accurate, that I have to be currently using it? For a while there those were hard to find so I've just kept in the wrapping and held on to it and presented when necessary. Kinda like a collector's item.

Do you have to have it open and active on THAT character to use the re-roll? If so, does that mean you need one for every character you have?

I appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you in advance.

I've never seen it played like that. I have my folio in a binder with my character sheets from Hero Lab, and never was told I was doing it wrong

Flagged this for moving to the Society forum...

But; I've seen loads of GMs just allow having one at the table to count. I'm even aware of one who keeps six (still wrapped) in their bag to loan to players at their table.

You don't have to be using it. Earlier versions of the Guide said that it had to be being used for the character being played, but that was quickly altered to being on the table or otherwise visible from the start of the game. The current Organized Play Accessory Perks & Promotional Boons page uses the words "own" and "display." So showing your Folio is probably all that is needed, but it should be yours.

Yes, this is PFS specific.
Ownership is the requirement and your GM was running off rather old rules. Shame on him.

Giving out copies should happen before the game begins, not on demand. If the loanees don't return it, Ahhh well, then they DO own a copy now 8^)

Thank you all for all the input.

Fairly sure this post from Mike Brock as Organised Play Coordinator still applies

Just to be safe, I tend to be 'using' my folio as a rules reference, such as using tables to look up helpful DCs.

I'm sorry that happened to you (and presumably everyone in that GM's area). That would be like requiring a qualifying t-shirt for each character you play.

I'm sure it was all a misunderstanding. Send him a friendly note letting him know that the rules were updated and provide links for his reference. Sometimes these things happen, we're all human and make mistakes, we correct them and move on to play some more PFS.

Reminds me of a game in 2010 just after I got my faction t-shirt. The GM said in his thick Australian accent, "ya gotta be wearin' it." It was winter here in Denver so I already had a few layers of shirts on. I just put the shirt on my head like a hat and said, "Hey. I'm wearing it!"
After a few chuckles from the other players the GM was all good with it.
He had me wear it on my head for the next 3 hours of the game and I happily obliged.

One of those silly times in PFS that I will never forget, as well as the GM who I have not seen in years.

Happy Gaming!

My Andoran shirt is too small for me, so rather than cut off circulation and show off too much of my couch potatoe physique I'm thinking of turning it into a flag.

Teeny tiny t shirts are a problem.

Make it into a patch and sew it onto the back of a jacket or a bookbag.

A much better idea, thanks.
