How Many Rays?

I'm unsure how many rays this Efreeti would get on his scorching ray cast. He has 10 hit dice which would usually indicate that he is level 10 but he is also listed as having a caster level of 11. So, how many rays per cast does he get? Thanks.

The number of rays is based on his caster level. If he has a caster level of 11 he gets the maximum number of rays as per the spell description. So he gets 3 rays.

Thanks. Normally with PCs caster levels are usually the same as their character level or lower, so I didn't know how it worked with monsters.

Spell-like abilities that a PC gets from race or class almost always cap at character or class level, but monsters don't have to follow those rules. There are quite a few creatures whose caster level for SLAs exceed their HD. IIRC, the majority of them are outsiders.

A monster might have an increased CL so that it can use a spell that a standard caster of that level/HD wouldn't normally have access to, or to achieve a certain minimum effect associated with the creature's lore, or just to emphasize the fact that it's a highly magical and wondrous threat.

Specific trumps General: If a specific CL is provided, use it. If not, then you would probably want to use HD or Class Level as a General rule.
