If I have only one metamagic feat - Intensify spell - can I use it on spells that don't actually benefit from it, in order to raise the spell's level, for more castings per day?
Does it matter if it's like using it on Fireball if you are level 7, and won't gain one way or the other?
What about a spell with static damage, not changed by spell level, like Spiked Pit, or Flaming Sphere?
Thank you!

You can fill spell slots with lower level spells without metamagic.
a spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell slot with a lower-level spell.
Do note that neither this nor other metamagic feats raise the spells actual level, just the level of the spell slot it occupies. (The exception being heighten spell)
That being said, at a quick glance I dont see anything preventing you from applying intensify spell to a spell that gains no benefit from it.

...and it's extremely useful for filling Domain slots on a Cleric or School slots on a Wizard...
Can i get someone to double check that part (specifically the cleric part)? I know you can generally prepare spells in higher level slots, but I just checked the text for domains and it seems to imply you can't swap their levels:
A cleric gains one domain spell slot for each level of cleric spell she can cast, from 1st on up. Each day, a cleric can prepare one of the spells from her two domains in that slot.
(I would love to be wrong about this, just hoping you can show me where it tells me)

Mothing says that the general rule does not apply to the domian slots.
Spell Slots
The character class tables show how many spells of each level each can cast per day. These openings for daily spells are called spell slots. A spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell slot with a lower-level spell. A spellcaster who lacks a high enough ability score to cast spells that would otherwise be her due still gets the slots but must fill them with spells of lower levels.
