Magic enhancement calculation

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Hi all

I have a question about this line form a monster's stat block:

Melee +3 keen greatsword +16 (2d6+10)

Is the magic enhancement bonus already calculated in the +16 or is it separate, and this should actually be +19 and 2d6+13?

Here is the full listing:

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/undead/undead-warlord/

Also, "keen" means double threat range, so this would be X4 for the greatsword, meaning it would crit on a roll of 17-20?

Thanks!

Generally, when listed this way it's already been calculated into it's stat block. But it's a value that can be checked since you should have everything you need to calculate it yourself.

Keen only increases the threat range not the multiplier, so it crits for x2 on a 17-20.

Well, let's look at the attack roll:

+5 from strength score
+ 1 from Desperate Battler
+1 from Weapon Focus
+ 9 from BAB

That's +16 before adding the magic enhancement bonus. So am I right now in assuming it was not added?

Silver Crusade

You are right. Usually enhancement (including masterwork) bonuses are included in the stat-block, but apparently not this time. Same applies to damage:

+7 from Str (2h weapon)
+2 from Weapon Specialization
+1 from Desperate Battler

By including the weapon enhancement bonus, the stat-block would be:

Base) +19 / 2d6+13 (crit 17-20/x2)
Power Attack) +16 / 2d6+21 (crit 17-20/x2)
Combat Expertise) +16 / 2d6+13 [+3 AC] (crit 17-20/x2)
Both) Combat Expertise) +13 / 2d6+21 [+3 AC] (crit 17-20/x2)

Great, thank you.

Yeah, I'm not sure which book the Undead Warlord is from, but it sure helps if there's consistency regarding the inclusion of magic enhancement in stat blocks.

Edit: isn't the Power attack supposed to be 2d6+22? With a BAB of 9, he gets -3 to attack roll and then +3 (with 50% for two-handed), multiple three times...?

The Exchange

If you look at the bottom of the page you’ll see a copyright notice telling you what book it is from. In this case it’s something called “Minions v3.5.” Which is not a Paizo book. Which in turn explains why the weapon attack line does not follow the standard format.

Riiight. Thanks.
Well, everything is just lumped together over there, hard to tell which is which sometimes, but at least it's not inconsistent as I thought.
