Advice on custom no / low magic pirate game, please?

I'm fairly new to DMing (been DMing/DM helper for about 2 years) but have an excited bunch of players looking forward to a custom game with a high seas setting. I know I'll be having them start as grunts on a pirate ship, and that they will grow to more or less having a small fleet of there own. I've limited their races to fit the custom world.

What I need advice with is how to set the grounds for a low and or no magic setting, especially with some classes like ranger and hunter?

Most of the "Magic" things will be potions or items. Where potions are more medicine. However, I'll still have magic/cursed items. (They will be raiding at least 2 ancient runes that may or may not have curses and really old magic items like wands and such.)

Would suggest using automatic bonus progression from unchained if you are going to make it so they won't get as many magic items.
