Oil of Potency and Handwraps of Mighty Fists incompatible?

Expert Handwraps of Mighty Fists as I understand them are still magical. So it looks like Oil of Potency, which can only be applied to non-magical weapons or armor cannot be used with them. That's a pretty significant hit to low-level monks.

That combined with the fact that they can't apply it to Bracers of Armor, either is another hit.

Was this an intentional or did it just happen because no one thought of it?

Liberty's Edge

Unarmed Strike says:

Quote:
You can Strike with your fist or another body part, calculating your attack and damage rolls in the same way you would with a weapon. This counts as a simple weapon, so almost all characters start out trained in unarmed attacks. Use the statistics for a fist even if you’re kicking, kneeing, or attacking with another part of your body. Some ancestry feats, class features, class feats, and spells give access to special, more powerful unarmed attacks.

& Oil of Potency

Quote:
When you apply this oil to a nonmagical weapon or suit of armor, that item immediately becomes magically potent. The item gains a temporary +1 potency rune of the appropriate type, even if it isn’t expert-quality or higher. This lasts for 1 minute.

So we know that Unarmed Strike is a non-magical simple weapon, and the Oil is simply looking for the Weapon itself so your Unarmed Strike would be Modified with Potency. You don't even need the Handwraps and indeed it would be pointless on any Handwraps that already have a Potency Rune since it doesn't stack.

I don't think "counts as" is supposed to mean the same thing as "it is". Somewhere it uses similar language for creatures attacks with their claws and whatnot. Which would allow a someone to cast magic weapon on people and animals. Absolutely sure that isn't intended, but that "counts as" is annoying.
