For the use and creation of the alchemists alchemical items, the rulebook emphasises the cost and the creation of those items ready for use. however the quick alchemy action seems to me, yes a useful action, however to me it seems like your creating something out of nothing, you don't need the ingredients for the item you want to create or anything like that. Your creating something out of nothing. Am i hugely missing something. OK, you are spending a resonance point to do it, so there is a penalty, but still it seems strange.


Ok, I think you are confused.

Alchemist have the Advanced Alchemy ability, which lets them create alchemical items at the beginning of the day by spending resonance points. For 1 point they get two of any one item they know the alchemical (and only alchemical but that includes bombs, elixirs, mutagens and poisons) formula for. These items only last for 24 hours then they disappear. Then alchemists have an option to not spend all their resonance at the start of the day. If later on they find they need a specific alchemical item that they have the formula for, and they have at least one resonance point, they can, as an action, use the Quick Alchemy skill to make one of that item, which only lasts until the end of the their round. So Advanced alchemy lets them make more stuff per day, and hope it is all useful, while Quick Alchemy allows them greater flexibility in what they make, but at a steep reduction in how many items they are going to be able to make and at an action tax.

So none of the items alchemist make using resonance points are permanent. I suppose an immoral alchemist could make a bunch of items this way and sell them to others, but he is going to be in for a world of hurt running that scam in a short amount of time.
