Alchemist Sand Bomb

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Looking into making a warpriest alchemist build utilizing a conductive sling, and came across the sand bomb discovery from the antihero handbook:

When the alchemist creates a bomb, he can pack the casing full of sand that explodes in an abrasive cloud on impact. A creature that takes a direct hit from a sand bomb is blinded for 1 round, as are any creatures in the splash radius that fail a Reflex save (DC = 10 + half the alchemist’s level + his Intelligence modifier).

Just a couple quick questions:

1) does the bomb really blind the direct hit target with no save?
2) Does the sand bomb also deal damage normally, dealing fire damage?

If the bomb auto blinds, that is pretty good for me since I rely on damage outside of just bombs even if I don't get the extra damage.

Well let's take a look at something close to it in order to find the answer.

Quote:

Tanglefoot Bomb

A creature that takes a direct hit from a tanglefoot bomb must save against the bomb’s DC or be entangled and glued to the floor as if it had failed its save against a tanglefoot bag. Creatures in the splash area that fail their saves are entangled but not glued to the floor; those who make this save are not entangled at all.

So reading this and comparing it to Sandbomb, we can or at least I can come to the conclusion that;

1)Sandbomb and Tanglefoot automatically inflict their status on Hit to the first target.

2)Tanglefoot bomb has no listed damage. Some other bombs have no listed damage either, like Sandbomb. I would say they do no damage.

And then we see a faq ruling;

Quote:

Question - Alchemist: Does an inferno bomb, poison bomb, smoke bomb, or stink bomb cause bomb damage in addition to the special effect listed for those discoveries?

Answer - Yes. For example, a smoke bomb deals bomb damage and creates an area of smoke.

Now it doesn't list Tanglefoot bomb in there or a few other bombs. But it does make a case for them doing damage. Honestly while Paizo might be in the right here, this sounds like something to run past your DM.
