Fighter Archetype and Shields

Skills, Feats, Equipment & Spells

I noticed going through the benefits granted by the Fighter Dedication archetype:

You become trained in light armor, medium armor, heavy armor, simple weapons, and martial weapons. Athletics is a signature skill for you.
Special - You cannot select another dedication feat until you have gained two other feats from the fighter archetype.

It gives you training in everything except shields. Is it meant to be like that, or is that a bug? It seems like a weird thing to exclude...

There is a general feat that grants you proficiency with shields.

Fighter Dedication is already attractive enough that I've seen a lot of people wondering why most PCs wouldn't take it. Shield prof would just overpower it more.

That seems weird to me. You need a 16 in Strength to qualify for Fighter Dedication. By the point you've soaked three of your plusses into Str, you've made more than a significant investment in that Archetype. It's not like Joe Wizard can just pick up Fighter Dedication--you have to be the kind of character who's really sacrificed for arguably the toughest two levels of a tough game for 3000 XP before you earn it.

Or, y'know, are playing a module where you get to make pre-leveled characters. Which I think it's because of this fluke that people don't really appreciate how tough it would be to play up to a point where you can grab this archetype.
