What Base Weapons are Still Missing?

What weapon niches, both thematic and mechanical, do you believe are still missing from PF2e? Could be weapons that have underutilized traits (Grapple), weapons that fulfill missing stat combinations (Slashing Shield Attachment), or weapons that don't really exist at all (double weapons that qualify for dual-wield abilities).

For me, one weapon that seems to be sorely missing is some sort of Martial equivalent to the Gauntlet/Spiked Gauntlet. d6, Agile, Freehand. This opens up thematic combinations that had damage issues before.

We have some martial arts weapons that are still not represented. Ruby Phoenix gave us a few, but we still need a Three-section staff, Pata and Sword breaker.

I could also see a place for an Atlatl. Maybe it can be a martial weapon that uses javelins as ammo.

Also, I want something interesting for oversized weapons. Concerning there are definitely Dark Souls and Berserk fans at Paizo, it is not so out there. Also have Great Shields and Great Bows, too.

Thrown melee weapons with a d8 that aren't the trident. I would also appreciate a finesse axe or hammer.

I'd like to see the Totem Spear come back at some point.

Frikin polehamner/lucerne hanmer and beaque de corbin! I NEED a D10 reach bludgeoning weapon pronto while the beaque could ve a d8 reach pick. Also i would really like the estoc, a martial gauntlet, double weapons and another (possibly bigger) jousting weapon, like a hussar lance or something similar. Oh, and pikes. Also the pollaxe that could be a d10 no reach pole weapon with the possibility for all three damage types

Pikes are already represented (the description for the longspear explicitly says that they are also known as pikes).

What we really need is the bohemian earspoon.

We need a mancatcher!

d4, reach, grapple.

BAM, silly weapon completed.

But i want some freakin giant pikes with 15ft reach, the longspear does not scratch the itch for me. As for the earspoon i suppos the ranseur kinda of covers it but i would not mind a brevosian earspoon

Yep the 15-ft long spear, forget the actual name, is not present when it really should be as a matter of War. That weapon is terrifying on the battlefield.

I believe there is also a good portion of the Tian and Asian weapons that are still missing.

I do get that the longspear doesn't really correspond well to the reality of pikes, I just don't know if a weapon with double reach will happen.

I am also not sure if pikes make a whole lot of sense in the type of combat that the game portrays - they lose most of their effectiveness when not used in large formations. A pike isn't so much a weapon as a component in a large machine made out of a mass of bodies holding long pointy poles. They are effective in massed formations because you present a forest of points that the enemy cannot avoid - a single pike on its own is unwieldy enough that you can pretty easily avoid it.

I have some miniatures with full on pikes, but will probably only use them as troops rather than on their own (wielded by a troop they make more sense, because a troop consists of usually about 25 creatures combined in one that can actually create an effective wall of pikes).

Falcata is missing. Can't make my Rondelero duelist yet.

against people sure but against a huge beast, like say a dragon, i feel like the extra lenght could actually have a place. I suppose that such a long weapon could not be used on adjacent enemies. Anyway pikes are lowish on my list and i would like my polehammer now

I want a nodachi or some other "super greatsword" that has reach that isn't the asp blade (because that's just a whip sword, and it's kinda sad imo). Also maybe some traditional pacific finishing weapons like samoan/maori hook spears or other "tool weapons" like that.

On historical weapons, I want to echo a previous poster's call for an Atlatl. It is one of the most overlooked weapons in history despite it being a super important weapon/hunting tool in human history. (It is also terrifying to see what someone can do with an Atlatl).

Javelins and slings are very overlooked in general - most video games and movies and tabletop games would have you think that armies have always just used large numbers of archers, when for most of human history slings and javelins where the dominant ranged weapons. I was very happy to see the halfling sling staff expand on the amount of slings in 2e.

On fantasy weapons, I really like the setting specific fantasy weapons like dogslicers and ogre hooks and sawtooth sabres. More stuff like that tied to various ancestries and organisations would be really cool.

I feel like hobgoblins are a good place to expand on setting specific weapons and equipment - they are highly militaristic while also being goblinoids, so that seems like a space for unique weaponry to crop up.

throwing weapons could indeed get a bit more loving. A propeller like the atlatl could be an interesting addition to the bunch, maybe as an attachment that increases the weapon's range

As far as essentials, currently, we lack a polearm hammer type weapon

Others I'd like to see would be a harpoon (with a functionality of being able to stick into people and let you pull them in), a mancatcher type thing, some more freehand weapons, more d8 thrown weapons, a martial agile ranged weapon with reload 0 or a mag/capacity, and more modular weapons with with significantly different functionality besides just damage types

There is actually one in the game, Hunter's Dawn.

Since we got the Butchering Axe back, I would love to see the return of the Orcish Tree Lance... or Orc Skull Ram as it's properly known. I just have this headcanon image of an Orc mounted on a Warg wielding basically an entire tree like a jousing lance. And it would be interesting to have a Spear weapon (in PF1e the OSR was a Spear weapon) that trades the Reach for just massive damage, and having Bludgeoning to allow some more variety in Spear damages.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the return of the Elven Leaf- and Thornblades, and just in general think it would be cool to have weapons that when wielded together give a function similar to Twin Weapons.

It's also weird there is no elf bow. That's like their thing right?

I'd also like to see these weapons return. The leaf and thorn blades would be great to see return with PF2E's more robust weapon traits system. They were a neat concept that wasn't especially unique in 1E.

Falcata, Lucerne Hammer, and Raven's beak is what I'd like to see.

I would like an upgraded Blow Gun style thing.
Maybe a Needler Launcher that goes on your arm. It still counts as a free hand, does 1d2 with something like 40 range. But introduces a "quiet" sort of trait for attacking with it. 10 ammo, 3 action reload (As you have to take it off. Load the needles, and re arm it) but counts as Reload0 for actually using the weapon.
I dunno if there is a trait already labeled for that. Basically very long reloading sequence, low damage, but hidable, quiet. Maybe agile.
Maybe something like Fatal with the bigger/extra dice. But only applicable if the target is not in combat, or is unaware of you (not jus flatfooted).

Basically a poisoner's centric weapon. Enough damage to help get through to proc poison.

its niche but neat. Also with other weird effects coming in, like sneak attack, or thaumaturge, and some of the stuff like inventor's boosters it could have some neat specific things.

Hey i just wanta sneaky assassin weapon, or alchemist weapon.

It isn't a weapon persay.. but I would very much love some Tower Shield love. or something between tower shield and shield bucker. but it contained something weird.

Its not a base weapon exactly from the past but Buckler Guns were always extrmely interesting in p1. More so when paired with the classes that could modfify things slightly. So that they were able to shoot scatter shots, or alchemical shots, etc.

A Tower Shield with a Capacity Blunderbuss would be an itneresting two handed weapon. Take Cover and fire. lIke a pilebunker.

Sovereign Court

A free-hand weapon with finesse would be nice. Basically a gauntlet with finesse instead of agile. But that would enable some of the "use a weapon in both hands" abilities for dex-oriented characters who also need a free hand for other stuff.

A throwing hammer without Agile would be nice for a barbarian I have in mind.

So the Repeating, Concealable, Free-Hand, and probably Nonlethal traits on a ranged weapon that does 1 damage with a decent range increment? I could get behind that, and even though it's not arm mounted, the Dart Umbrella does most of what you're describing!

Well I think I'd want the damage to actually be a dice. Even if its a D2. Blowgun doing 1 damage was quite an issue in terms of rules combinations. Its pretty awkward and effectively locks out so many things like crits, or the potency runes.
Plus 1 damage on a range weapon means almost certainly not going to get damage added to it. Which makes actually poisoning someone difficult at times.

I do love the dart umbrella. Its almost fantastic for me. It has the same 1 damage not a dice issue though. Its pretty great. I'm trying to igure out if there is a way to get bleed damage on it.. Its pretty rough to try and use it more often as a player charater. I'd totally use one as the main weapon if it had a little more.

I'd still want one with a damage dice. and either capacity or a magazine. So my alchemist could use it more often in battle.

Huh.Dart Umbrella could have a cooler higher bulk version that wanst as concealable what had a weaker ability to provide cover like a tower shield.
buuut. I blame 902 batman cartoon's penguin for that idea

POTENCY runes are the ones that add +X to hit, STRIKING runes are the ones that add extra dice, and I could see an entry saying either "striking runes on a weapon with flat damage double that damage" or "you can't put striking runes on a weapon with flat damage", as either would be fine imo (and crits just double the net damage after everything has been calculated). Damage added by way of Class Feature (Sneak Attack, Precise Strike, Weapon Specialization) would still get added, and you only need to do a minimum of 1 damage in order to administer Injury poison, and Contact poisons just need the hit to connect. As to bleed damage, that's just the Wounding rune or a class feature that inflicts bleed.

Using one as cover/a wall sounds AMAZING and I want one now!

This would definitely be my choice! We need more ancestral weapons in general, but I was waiting for the elven branched spear and orc skull ram. Well we got one. Personally I always loved the idea of an orc warrior hefting this huge pillar as a weapon like Wan-fu from Samurai Shodown.

Also want the Lucerne so I can run a sequel to my 1e Carrion Crown game with minimal effort. :P

How about the Orc Shotput?

I always get thse runes mixed up. Potency makes me think they do more damage and striking makes me think of the strike action. aka hitting. Thanks~

1 damage is surprisngly hard in somce caes with a blowgun unless you do have stuff like sneak damage or such.
Wounding I wish I could use that on ranged weapons. but I can generally understand why they dont. One reason i like throwing knife though.
