[Monk] Legendary proficiency in saves is lacking right now

The class feature Third Path to Perfection gives you the "choice" between bumping up a save by +1 or bumping another save by +1 and automatically make any success of it a critical success. How is that even a choice? The legendary proficiency does not feel legendary at all.

In order for this class feature to be a real choice, the legendary proficiency should give you something interesting like letting you reroll the save once, if you rolled a fail or crit fail.

Being legendary in something, should be something you would really want to achieve and represents you being out of this world good in that particular thing. How is +1 to save rolls legendary exactly, when being elevated from expert to master does so much more?

As it stands right now, no one would select legendary proficiency over a second master proficiency.

Seems pretty legendary to me, tbh, tho I'd prefer something along the lines of "increase your degree of success by 1 step", which would include turning critical failure into mere failure, and failure into success.

Regardless, there's issues with the fluffing of proficiency vs its actual mechanical benefits in general, not just for the monk.

Except that the effect you mentioned has nothing to do with legendary proficiency but instead is granted by Second Path to Perfection for all master proficiency saves. Again, other than +1 to save, legendary proficiency does nothing right now. This is not just a fluff issue, this is a game mechanics issue if the choice for this class feature you get is "you get +1x" (legendary proficiency) or "you get +1x and in addition up to +9y" (second master proficiency).


Other legendary saves generally also convert critical failures to failures, and make you take half damage on a failure if applicable. I'm guessing they left it out because Monks already have so many more save options than other classes, plus Monk's Evasion gives you part of that benefit.

Ah, my bad. I misread what you wrote.

Anyway, I stand by the second part of my post, that this isn't an issue unique to the monk. The fluff around proficiency is not properly supported by its mechanical benefits, whether it's for Saving Throws, Attack Rolls, AC/TAC, or DCs.
