Bards and Tenth Level Spells

Classes

I haven't seen a post on this, so I'm sorry if I missed it. Shouldn't Bards, as the primary occult casters, gain access to tenth level spells? There's no feat for it, and I thought the Playtest blog stated that they would be tenth level casters. Was this just an oversight?

Yeah I did a post a couple of days ago (though it only gain a little traction before being buried by the flood of other playtest topics, so hear hoping this post will renew the interests.) Mainly the things people came up with is

1) fatal aria could be consider the '10th' level spell (depends on your interpretation is if a 'Power' is a spell)

2) If bards do not gain access to tenth level occult spells, the only ones that could are Aberrant Sorcerers, meaning (assuming people pick classes and bloodlines evenly) only 1.4% of all characters that reach 20th level could gain access to those spells.

3) If the bard does have access to 10th level spells, they could actually have three of them at one time (thanks to the class feat that gives bards a spellbook).

4) Out of the four spells on the 10th list, two of them are on others, and one of the other ones is just the occult version of wish--meaning most of the spells could still be tested without.

5) For playtesting {at least for now} it could be a mute point, as I think the current adventure ends at level 17, 3 levels before bards would get the access, leaving this more of a problem for theory builders {and those who just like bards}

I'd second this. Currently the Bard is the only caster who cannot take 10th level spells, and as a Bard lover it makes me a bit sad, even though Fatal Aria and Symphony of the Muse are such amazing capstone feats

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Symphony of the Muse is pretty awesome (only slightly put down by it having to follow a class feat chain Lingering Composition --> Harmonize -->Symphony of the Muses. Still you get something pretty good through each step, and ends off with something awesome for it, especially if you were already planning to go down the path of the Composition Bard.)

Fatal Aria was a bit of a let down for me, its a slightly better heighten 'Power Word Kill', but with an addtional limit of the traget getting blostered against it. It can be used to kill a creature, but most of the creatures you want to kill using this are out of the level range. (Not to say its bad, it can still be a good, cheap, quick way to deal with the big bosses minions.) Just it can also easily become 'deal 50HP damage once'. (Note this is based on a comparasion between the awesome potential of Symphony of the Muse, and the power of the level 10 Occult spells. Still I love the flavour behind it.)
